Gitte Binskin, wife of Air Chief Marshal Mark Binskin is the Patron of the Defence Community Organisation.
Gitte Binskin is the Practice Manager at a Dental Surgery in Queanbeyan, NSW.
Gitte was born in Fakse, Denmark in 1962. Gitte is a common Danish name, which is short for ‘Brigitte’, and is pronounced ‘Ghee-teh’. Raised in Præstø Denmark, Gitte travelled to Australia in 1981 as part of a 12 month Rotary Student Exchange. Gitte met the then Royal Australian navy A-4 G Skyhawk pilot, Sub Lieutenant Mark Binskin in Newcastle when he was posted to RAAF Williamtown They were married two years later on the 6th August 1983.
Gitte completed a Diploma in Bio Sciences whilst working at Newcastle TAFE as a Technical Officer, Grade 2. Following this posting, Gitte moved with her husband to the USA where she worked as a Technical Officer at a Research Institute for Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases in Sun City, Arizona. On return to Australia, Gitte has worked in a variety of areas including retail and at a Chiropractic practice in Newcastle. Since 2006, Gitte has been Practice Manager of the Queanbeyan Dental Surgery, focussing on administration and client relations.
Gitte was proud to pin Mark’s new rank slides onto his tunic when he was promoted to Air Chief Marshal and appointed as Chief of the Defence Force on the 30th June 2014. Gitte has provided dedicated support to her husband throughout his career and accompanies Mark to many official events and functions. Gitte is very interested in Defence matters, particularly issues relating to Service people, their families and support for young veterans. Gitte is the current patron of the Defence Community Organisation.
Throughout their marriage Gitte and Mark have moved around Australia and overseas. Gitte has enjoyed living in Newcastle, Katherine in the Northern Territory and Arizona, United States of America. Gitte and Mark currently reside in the historic Bridges House at the Royal Military College-Duntroon in Canberra.
Gitte and Mark have two adult sons, as well as two dogs, Vichenzo and Basil. When time permits; Gitte enjoys walking Vichenzo and Basil, cross-stitch, Pilates and riding her motorbike with Mark. Gitte is currently working toward obtaining a recreational pilot’s licence. She started flying solo in early 2017 and is now completing the final licence requirements.
