Making an FOI request or general inquiry

Please note: A request to Defence for access to a document under the FOI Act must:

• be in writing (email and the web form are both fine); and
• state that the request is an application for the purposes of the FOI Act (e.g. I am seeking documents under the Freedom of Information Act 1982); and
• provide such information concerning the document as is reasonably necessary to identify it (e.g. date of documents, type of document, author, subject, potential location);
• be specific and avoid broad statements like ALL or ANY documents with your name on them; and
• give details of how notices under the FOI Act may be sent to the applicant (e.g. by providing an email address to which notices may be sent).
